Emily Wolahan
Emily Wolahan is the author of the poetry collection Hinge (National Poetry Review Press, 2015). Her poem “Still Lifes and Landscapes” received the Lorraine Williams Prize from the Georgia Review, and her hybrid prose poem “The Direct Account of Frank Thomas” won the Unclassifiables Contest from Arts & Letters. She has collaborated with painter Owen Brown on the Fieldwork Scroll, a forty-foot painting and poem addressing forced human migration. From 2016 to 2019, she was an affiliate artist at the Headlands Center for the Arts. Now she is the director of creative writing at the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts, a public arts high school. She is also a PhD candidate in anthropology and social change (CIIS), with ongoing research focused on the creation of Forecasting, an original work of social-practice art.
Emily is very excited to join Sixteen Rivers Press and to work closely with fellow members. Collective work and solidarity with other artists are key values in her writing and worldview. Emily moved to San Francisco with her husband and kids thirteen years ago from the UK. Both her children are now in high school, and she has two dogs, Turnip and William Morris.
Sixteen Rivers Press will publish Emily’s next book in 2028.
